Plein-air art classes 2025

You’ll find below a summary of this year’s class dates below….

There are fewer classes this year as I have had a lot of other commitments. It is a joy to be out and about, painting outside. We had a great class in the spring for the bluebells in Portglenone Forest Park, and I have another class coming up at the end of June in Waterfoot beach.

I also was honoured to be a guest tutor at the Portaferry Plein air festival. I adore the area around Strangford Lough as well. We are so lucky to have so much beauty on our doorstep!

Here is a brief rundown of how the plein air classes run

We meet at our rendezvous point in the car park of our venue. I’ll email you details near the time of the class.
We start each session with a short demonstration so you can see how I approach capturing the landscape ahead of me,
I run through with you how I go about deciding aspects of composition and showing some drawing techniques that will help you get started on your own unique compositions.
Pastelmat paper is provided, as, whether you are beginning your artistic journey, or already along the road, it is a wonderful quality paper and straight forward for you to use to create a finished piece during the session, then take home, ready to frame - If you would like me to provide pastels for your use during the session, I can provide some for you at an additional £5 cost. Generally you can bring your own pastels, and if you prefer to bring an alternative painting media, you are most welcome.
I also provide a seat, easel and drawing board and cloths for your hands so you need only bring yourself, your pastels, a drink and some snacks/a packed lunch on the day of your class.

My chosen venues are so beautiful, they are a pleasure to paint in. Generally, I chose places which have toilets nearby and there is not too much walking to be done.

Large, 2.2m span fishing umbrella shelter will be provided if the weather is showery, but don't let it put you off! If it rains, dramatic landscapes can be captured in all weathers!! However, If the weather is completely terrible, with unremitting rain and wind I may have to cancel/reschedule. in which case you will be offered a refund.
10 places only available per session. I want you to have lots of support and encouragement.

£35 per person, per class. £40 per person per class if including pastels.

All classes start at 10am and complete at 2pm to get the best of the light for learning.
