Hello All! As many of you know, I have moved to France and I am revelling in my discoveries of lovely places to paint. I am only scratching the surface of what life is like here, and I love it already. A beautiful and friendly place. I love Ireland, but experiencing a new climate, language and culture is something I have long wanted to do, so I have taken the plunge and begun this journey.
However, I have not forgotten all my wonderful followers and students, and I am keen to offer this course in painting in pastels, while considering many aspects of how we use colour in our paintings. Pastels are easy to play with and mix, they are often very satuated in colour, which makes them a joy to use for this. However, these ideas will be completely transferable between coloured mediums.
During the 8 weeks, we will take a different element of how colour is used and explore it while painting from a photo reference, which I will provide. I think it will be helpful to your art as we touch on the following;-
Saturated and subdued colours; the concept of warm and cool colours; the role of greys, shadows and their colours, advancing and receding colours, complimentry colours, emotions in colour, colour harmony and limited palettes. Each week, a new topic, but we’ll probably overlap a little, as art is a coming together of many things, as we know!
I will work live, alongside you and you will be able to see my work with an overhead camera, as well as, of course my face during discussion and explanation times. I will create a WhatsApp group for participants to upload photos of their work, so I can give supportive and encouraging feeback at the beginning of each class. I use the group to reiterate the main points of each class of our work together.
This course will be suitable for artsits who have begun their artistic journeys a little, through to improver levels.
